Volunteer Story

Cornerstone Church of Lincoln Way, pastored by Caleb Goossen, has been joining our Winter Camps for the past several years. We have formed a strong relationship with him and the church over these years. Their students come to our summer camps and we hire some of their high schoolers. Dan Yonke, our Volunteer Coordinator, scheduled their youth group to come do dishes and rake leaves for a weekend. They had 7 students and 3 adults moved over 35 large tarps of leaves, AND got all the dishes done for a retreat group of 120 people! They still had enough energy to enjoy some late night Climbing Center fun!

A servant-minded attitude

We were blown away by their hard work, dedication to a job done well, and for their servant-minded attitude. We saw a love for one another and a desire to love the other church youth group they did not know. They didn’t wait till Saturday breakfast to start helping. On Friday night, they paused their UNO game and assisted the retreat group find their cabins. Pray for the variety of ways retreat groups share the Gospel and teach students how to follow Jesus in their daily lives. Pray over our summer staff recruiting efforts. We are so thankful for all the weekend volunteers who make retreats possible. Without them doing dishes, raking leaves, and more we’d have a difficult time providing a great retreat experience.

Above and beyond expectations!

The Cornerstone youth group went above and beyond what was expected. They showed a love for Jesus through their work. Serving God through serving another youth group on their retreat. They inspired the retreat youth group they served to want to come back and serve in the same way. The retreat group understood that their weekend experience was made possible by another youth group and now they want to give back.
