Core Values

The Phantom Five

Phantom Ranch has been helping people draw closer to God through great camp experiences since 1954. To ensure our staff continue to achieve this goal, we have organizational core values. We call them The Phantom Five. Everyone on our year-round staff team is fun-loving, grateful, generous, discovery-minded, and an excellent teammate!

We desire for all who spend time on the Phantom Ranch property to leave more fun-loving, grateful and generous!

FUN-LOVING

We believe Phantom Ranch should be fun for EVERYONE! When campers are having fun, they will be more responsive to the Gospel and Biblical teaching. When the staff are having fun, they will be more willing to serve campers and each other. We are intentional in considering the interests of others as more important than our own. We make camp fun for everyone and we don’t make fun of anyone.

Summer Staff

GRATEFUL

We believe there’s a difference between thankfulness and gratefulness. Being thankful is what you think, and being grateful is what you do. Both are vital. We value intentionally showing our appreciation. We are grateful and good stewards of ALL God has provided to Phantom Ranch—especially our staff and even our old, dented work trunks! We are thankful in all circumstances. We don’t entertain complaining because we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit!

GENEROSITY

We believe generosity is meeting the needs of others at the expense of our own needs. We are generous with more than our money—we generously give forgiveness, mercy, grace, praise, encouragement, availability, knowledge, and our precious time. We believe in being open-handed with all God has provided. We strive to have a relentless pursuit of camper delight.

DISCOVERY-MINDED

We believe in being life-long students of camp ministry and of Jesus. We are open-minded to new ideas and to learning about each other’s work departments. We humbly give our successes to God and seek out feedback in order to be better in the future. We believe help without permission can be harmful or hurtful.

TEAMMATES

We believe the best teammates CLAP, CARRY, and CARE. We clap when we see each other doing something good and we bring out the best in each other. We carry our teammates forward through emotional intelligence and exemplifying Jesus. We care for each other by gently calling attention to the areas of life and work where improvement or course correcting are needed in hopes to bring out the best in each other.

Phantom Ranch uses nature, Biblical teaching themes, chapel sessions, and the close relationship of a Cabin Leader to point campers to Jesus Christ. Away from the noise of screens and the fast pace and difficulties of life, campers have a unique opportunity to make deep friendships with peers and staff, develop life skills, conquer homesickness, increase social awareness, and connect with their Maker.
