Some people want to try this sport seeking a sense of adventure. A few thrive on the thrill of being high above the ground. Most of us love the physical and mental demands that come with the question, “How can I conquer this challenge?” The majority of us, however, we’re just looking for a new and exciting activity to get us moving and out of the house. SrA Daniel Johnson
1987 – 2010
Senior Airman Daniel James Johnson enlisted in the United States Air Force in November 2006 and became a member of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. He was heroically killed in action on October 5th, 2010 while deployed in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Bronze Star With Valor.
Dan lived his life with enthusiasm, zeal, and integrity. Dan was an avid rock climber and lived an active lifestyle. He built an indoor climbing wall in Afghanistan which he even trained by wearing his heavy bomb suite while climbing. Though Dan’s life was extremely short by our standards; his list of accomplishments is long by any standard. He exhibited an integrity, exuberance, and devotion for life rarely seen or experienced. In everything he did, Dan sought excellence and showed those around him a radical determination to do his best.
Dan’s dedication to his God was evident throughout each adventure he encountered and every relationship. Dan and his family faithfully served at Phantom Ranch Bible Camp for many years.
Our sincere gratitude is given to the SrA Daniel James Johnson Memorial Fund to create the climbing wall inside the Climbing Center at Phantom Ranch Bible Camp.
